CCSVI is short for Chronic Cerebrospinal Venous Insufficiency.
It highlights blood flow restriction of veins, which drains blood from spinal cord and brain (CNS).
This venous irregularity slows rate of blood flow, from CNS back to heart, leads to possible blood reflux, forcing it's way back to CNS.
In veins draining blood from CNS, those diagnosed with CCSVI will have any of the following vascular irregularities :
Stenosis is a narrowing of veins resulting in restricted blood flow.
This could be due to a twisted vein, a collapsed vein, ring shaped narrowing's of the vein, and various other abnormal blockages or obstructions.
Partially blocked or completely blocked veins.
Hypoplasia, Atresia, agenesis and other serious vascular conditions including missing veins, poorly developed or poorly formed veins.
Irregular valve, flap, septum, or membrane interfering with normal blood flow within veins.
Marie Rhodes published her CCSVI Book, "the Cause of Multiple Sclerosis: The Science behind the Controversial Theory" on 1st June 2011.
As early online advocate of CCSVI with nursing background, Marie began investigates theory of "MS" having significant venous implications.
Marie is a long term member of ThisIsMs Multiple Sclerosis research and support forum, which opened separate CCSVI forum in 2009, which also lead to creation of CCSVI Alliance, which promotes CCSVI education and research.
Different forms of treatment, stenting and balloon angioplasty.
Stenting generally lasts longer but health risks increase. Balloon angioplasty is safer but re-stenosis rate is higher.
Costs, re-stenosis rate, travel issues, after care, and suitability are all considerations you and loved ones should discuss with potential treatment providers.
